How it happened

Inspirato is the Denver luxury travel subscription club that brothers Brent and Brad Handler launched in January 2011, leasing luxury vacation homes to paying members. It listed on Nasdaq on February 14, 2022 through a merger with Thayer Ventures' SPAC, a deal that set an enterprise value of about $1.1B.

Holders redeemed nearly all the SPAC's public shares, and the thin float briefly squeezed the stock several times higher. At the end of March 2022 its roughly 122M economic shares were worth about $1.2B. The shares then slid to around 60 cents by September 2023, when Brent Handler stepped down as CEO.

Exclusive Investments, the Steve Case-backed parent of Exclusive Resorts, bought Inspirato for $4.27 a share, about $59M on a fully diluted basis, closing on February 3, 2026.
